- Provide you with an “Official Letter” addressed to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada which will be submitted with other related documentation to secure the Poultry and Egg On-Farm Investment Program
Who may qualify as a Canadian poultry and/or egg producers:
- Chicken producers
- Turkey producers
- Turkey breeders
- Egg producers
- Broiler hatching egg producers
Bio-security Funding
Program objectives
- increase efficiency or productivity
- improve on-farm food safety and biosecurity
- improve environmental sustainability
- respond to consumer preferences (improving animal welfare, adopting alternative housing systems, transitioning to organic production, etc.)
Funding availability
- Approved retroactive projects are receiving contribution agreements with funding from the current fiscal year (April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027).
- If approved of a retroactive project, we aim to process your reimbursement payment within 30 business days of a duly completed claim.
- Approved non-retroactive projects can expect to receive funding from the fiscal year in which all project activities are completed and paid for.
- Successful applicants with a 2026-27 contribution agreement for a non-retroactive project can submit their claim starting April 1, 2026. For most non-retroactive projects, claims may only be submitted once a project is completed and all costs are incurred and paid.
Eligibility checklist
- You must be one of the following producer types:
- poultry and/or egg producers holding quota
- poultry and/or egg producers licensed, or equivalent, by a provincial marketing agency
- Atlantic Canada Hatching Egg Producers
- poultry and/or egg producers under new entrant programs with loaned quota and/or whole-farm leases with loaned quota at the time of the calculation
- You must have held quota/shares of provincial production on January 1, 2021. The quota/shares of provincial production you held on January 1, 2021, is used to determine your maximum funding amount under the program.
- You must be an individual or legal entity capable of entering into legally binding agreements and contracts
- You must be actively engaged in farming in Canada as a poultry and/or egg producer
Eligible project period
You can apply for projects that will be completed before or on March 31, 2031 and costs that will be incurred before or on March 31, 2031.
Cost-sharing
- AAFC — a maximum of 70%
- You — a minimum of 30%

Sample Funding Available:
Alberta On-Farm Efficiency Program (OFEP): a provincial program under Sustainable CAP that includes a Farm Security stream. It offers up to $2,000 per applicant at a 50/50 cost share for security-related items such as remote monitoring cameras and GPS trackers; other streams also support farm technology that may help with biosecurity indirectly.

Federal, Provincial and Territorial Governments
Federal, provincial, and territorial governments are also continuing to work towards bilateral agreements. This investment will be cost-shared on a 60:40 basis and delivered by provinces and territories to ensure programs are tailored to meet regional needs.
